We’ve all heard people say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But is it true?
It actually can help to start the day with food in your stomach—but choosing the right kind of food is key! A breakfast that includes whole grains, protein, dairy, fruit and vegetables can set you up for success. Instead of unwrapping a cereal bar, try a yogurt parfait, a breakfast burrito, or a pita with peanut butter and fruit. You’ll be less likely to feel tired or hungry, or overeat later in the day.
Breakfast is especially important for kids. Studies show that students who eat breakfast do better on tests and pay more attention in class. If you have kids at home, eating a good breakfast also sets an example by showing that you’re enjoying fruits and vegetables yourself. And if you get everyone involved with choosing and preparing foods, they may be more interested in eating what they helped create.
