How-To: Power Up with Protein
Slash the fat quiz
Answer five questions to see where you could be reducing the fat in your meals without losing out on flavor!

Question 1
You should try to eat as little fat as possible.
Your body needs some fat. In fact, without fat, your body cannot use some of the vitamins you eat.
Fish and other foods contain good-for-you fats, but many meat and poultry products contain more fat than we need.

Question 2
Which of these has the most fat?
The number shows how much of what you’re buying is meat—the rest is fat. So 75% ground beef means 25% fat. Try choosing 90% or higher when you shop. (You’ll have more meat left to eat after the fat drains away.)
Question 3
Which of these are high in saturated fat? (You can check more than one.)
Trick question! These can all be high in saturated fat (unless you choose lower-fat varieties). Processed foods can also be high in salt and sugar. Try to limit how often you eat them.
Question 4
As long as you buy lean meat, it doesn’t matter how you cook it.
Grilling, broiling, roasting and baking are all great ways to cook meat without adding extra fat and calories. Try those instead of frying.

Question 5
If you see words like “loin” or “round,” the meat is probably leaner.
Beef, venison, lamb, goat and pork cuts with round, loin or leg in the name tend to be leaner. Choose them over ribs, belly and meats with visible fat.
