French-fries to nuts

What’s the difference between good and bad fats?

Leah replied:

We don’t like to call any food “bad.” But some fats are on the “try to avoid” list.

There are three kinds of fats in food. We’ve listed them from best to worst for your health:
🟢 Unsaturated fats: You need some healthy fats in your diet, so try to choose these. Unsaturated fat comes from vegetable oils, fish, nuts, seeds, olives and avocados. You may see these shown as “polyunsaturated” or “monounsaturated” fats on labels.

🟡 Saturated fats: Some of these fats occur naturally in foods such as meat and dairy. However, they are also present in highly processed foods. If you limit processed foods, you may be able to reach a goal of no more than 10% of calories from saturated fat.

🔴 Trans fats: These are found in processed and deep fried foods, as well as packaged baked goods. Labels can say a food has 0 trans fats if it has half a gram or less per serving. If you eat a lot of these, trans fats can still add up.

Simply put, too much saturated and trans fat may not be good for our hearts. They can cause blockages in our arteries. This can lead to high cholesterol and heart disease.

Choose healthier fats whenever you can!
