Great question! It turns out that a lot of the ideas in Eat Easy How-Tos also help keep your energy levels up. Why? We often crave sugar, caffeine and super-processed food when we’re stressed or hangry. They provide quick energy, but you can crash later, feeling worse than you did before.
Better ways to boost energy
- Try to eat every 3 or 4 hours so you stay fueled. A variety of foods that include protein, good fats and fiber will help you feel full for longer. That way, your energy won’t drop off suddenly.
- Include a variety of fruits and vegetables. All those vitamins and minerals help you stay strong and adapt to stress.
- Choose snacks with some protein and fiber, like fruit and nuts, carrots and hummus, or low-fat cheese.
- Go easy on sugary and caffeinated drinks. They may feel like they’re helping in the short term, but can leave you more tired and moody after they wear off. And they’re costly.
- Drink water. Water helps bring nutrients to your muscles so your body feels more energized. Plus, your brain is mostly made up of water—drinking more of it can help improve concentration and balance your mood.
