Observing what’s around you can be a great way to slow down and clear your mind of other noise. You can try this easy Mindful Moment any time, anywhere.

  1. This doesn’t require any preparation. Simply look out a window or stand outside.
  2. Note everything there is to see—colors, patterns and texture. Go beyond “bird” or “bike” to notice the individual feathers or the way the wheels turn.
  3. Pay attention to how things move—the leaves or grass or snow in the breeze, how shadows and light change. Imagine it’s your first time seeing these things.
  4. Watch for a few moments. Be observant but not critical, aware but not fixated. If your mind wanders, ease it back to observing.
  5. Stay, breathing slowly and looking, until you feel like you’re in the right frame of mind to get back into your day.
